Only 60 Miles from Miami, The
Bimini Islands
The closest Bahamas Islands to the U.S. are the Biminis, located just 60
miles from Miami, and approximately 120 miles northwest of Nassau. Bimini was first
settled in 1848 and became famous during the 1930s Prohibition Era when the island was
used as a storage ground for Florida rum-runners. Bimini, today is considered by many to
be the fishing capital of the world, in addition, it offers excellent Scuba diving, around
shipwrecks, great shallow water snorkeling and beautiful beaches. Also located on the
island is the former home of Ernest Hemingway, with the Fisherman's Hall of Fame.
Nassau, The Capital of the
Commonwealth of the Bahamas
The capital of the Commonwealth, occupies the northeastern segment of New
Providence and is considered to be the crossroads of the Bahamas,with most Out Island
resorts lying within a 150 mile radius.

The Abacos, Eleuthera Islands, Exuma
Islands, Cat Island, San Salvador (where Christopher Columbus landed in 1492), Crooked
Islands, Mayaguana Island and Inagua Islands are all part of the Out Islands. Most only a
short flight from Nassau, these islands are all well equipped with good asphalt runways,
some with compacted coral. Some of the best diving in the world is located here,
snorkeling, fishing along with a total relaxed atmosphere. Over 30 airports to visit,
extending South to the Turks and Caicos Islands (UK).
